I share links to content regularly in my LinkedIn Messages.
You cannot include links (or phone numbers) in your invite to connect messages.
If you are sending an in Mail or LinkedIn Message to a 1st level or group connection, you can include links.
Here is an example of a LinkedIn Message sent to me with a Link in it:
There are many problems with LinkedIn the application.
There are also problems with the ways people use LinkedIn.
However, I prefer to focus on what works and what I can do to get the greatest value from LinkedIn.
On LinkedIn (in general) you have to do 6 deliberate actions to get value from LinkedIn:
1- Build a clear and concise LinkedIn Profile that shows who you are and what you do. This is fairly easy to do, although it takes lots of time and though.
2- Build and keep growing a meaningful LinkedIn Network of people in your industry and beyond. Use the Advanced Search, Group Search, Network Search, etc to find people you know and want to know.
3- Build a Professional Reputation based on the content you share and engage on, again relevant to your career or business goals. A minimum of weekly activity is best practice here.
4- Engage with your network in open conversations, relevant to who you are and what you do. When traveling to a different city, find someone on LinkedIn to meet there.
5- Work to move past an online connection to an IRL (In real life) conversation.
6- Use your network to make new connections relevant to your goals (career or business). I share links to content regularly in my LinkedIn Messages.
